Default Calling Targets

Okay, I don't know if this has been brought up before but...

Wouldn't it be nice of the target call text was a little more, hm, attention catching on your screen? Like, making it look exactly like the chat doesnt really help, for in PvP, your gonna be way to panicked to look, and concentrating hard on your skill bar. So, iunno, but maybe like a target call window could be made... I think the reason so many people dont follow target calls is because they cant see them in the first place. Maybe put target calls in shiny letters in a certain place... Yeah, just my two cents.

I'd have to agree, why isn't all automated text, such as "My Energy is at X of X" in a different color, though more emboldened, perhaps a seperate color altogether, for target calls, since those do feature a small icon, which should be elongated a bit more, and just for aesthetics sake crossing swords or something, I hate that freaking target even if it makes sense.

While I won't say it's a bad idea, since every little bit helps, I really don't understand how people have a problem following called targets. When you hear a ping, glance and see if there's any of the little boxy arrows in front of your teammates names. If so, hit 't.'

It really seems simple enough to me.

Agreed.

I don't really read anything, unless I'm dead. If I hear a ping, I don't even look down, I hit T-space and continue on.

ALTHOUGH I could see where you might run into problems using the don't-read-only-listen-for-the-ping technique. If a monk type is calling that they are casting Pacifism on someone, I probably ought not to attack that target...

A lot of times when you try to follow targets you can get blocked-in by multiple people and hence finding out exactly where your target is is a very difficult thing to do. Especially since the pathfinding can cause your character to stop moving entirely just as he's on the way to follow a target. It's always a major pain every time that happens, which is often.

There is actually a good solution to this concept that could be borrowed from a little known old game called "Savage: The Battle for Newerth".

In that game if a commander told you to attack a target, then what happened was a very noticeable beam of light shined down from the sky and onto the target. That beam stayed in effect - highlighting him with a vertical beam that reaches from the lowest part of the ground to the highest part sky - until it either died, or the commander called a different target.

If Guild Wars was to use this " highlighting laser beam from the sky system" to highlight the called target, that would actually be an extremely useful feature.

In Tombs, I force my way to call targets. Basically, I tell them I'm taking charge because I honestly feel I do a good job of calling targets. And I spam it. Completley. ie. pressing ctrl+spacebar a whole bunch of times to get everyone's attention. I'm REALLY sure that after pressing ctrl+spacebar about 6-7 times gets their attention. If not, ah well then.

Targeting just once, obviously, isn't always so clear. I say just spam it. But hey, that's just me.

I hate when people spam. Because if you are not on vent/ts you need to coordinate things like healing seed, hexes,... with ctrl+click

If someone spams things (for example taregts or by calling every single action) he prohibits effective coordination.

Every decent player can follow a single target call.

Bad player won't follow the calls, even if the screen flashes red-green and yellow and says in a satanic voice: "You fool, follow target you must".

So please don't spam - it makes it harder for a good group and won't help in a bad one...

Amen!... Sad thing is, it's true. They think "Hey, i'm attacking this guy and doing damage, why do i have to switch targets?"... Ahh, the joys of humanity.

I just wish the target calls would last a little longer. Very annoying when I cant find the target because the call has decayed, meaning i've got to cycle through and find the target myself, which takes precious time.

I know the target can be refreshed, but why not just make it last longer?

If the caller is attacking what they called, the call remains indefinitely. However, if they do anything to a different target or for whatever reason don't attack it for a period of time, then the call does disappear. A good caller will be paying attention and re-call it when neccessary.

The reason for that's so simple; it's that the players sees he would not be at full efficiency hitting that other target.

If it's a warrior, maybe he's too far away from the called target to run to it, or maybe he's crippled / slow-hexed.

If it's a mesmer, maybe he's busy keeping down a monk.

Non-direct damage classes like Monks, Mesmers and Earth/Water Eles might have better things to do than waste their time shooting their low damage output at the called target.

Of course; they might be wrong (just as much as you might be wrong). The best thing is to make it absolutely clear at the start of the game: who follows absolutely the called targets (usually those who do mostly damage; Air Eles, curses Necro, Rangers, Warriors), those who hit the most adequate target for them, then get on the called target if there's nothing else to do (Water/Earth/Fire Eles, Necros) then those who simply do their thing (Mesmers and Monks). And you can also preplan that a called target once uses the rules above mentionned while a spammed target means an absolute priority (like the target's the last monk and is almost dead).

Guizzy, most people just do not switch to better targets, or choose not to focus fire like it is somehow inconvenient for them to click on that little target. They are not arguing against people maintaining on targets which they are supposed to, this is why it doesn't automatically switch to whatever target the person with the highest rank has, but, for those who may need to, or who you want helping, some just do not even realize it or pay attention, and enough of them realize it and do not bother.

I miss it enough and I pay quite a bit of attention to what is going on and attempt to hack into whatever enemy my friends are on, regardless of actually called targets, but then again, I call enough.
